" Magis protocol is a real guide for a sustainable management of the vineyard and it has entered the sustainable international programs list of Quebec. Today Magis represents a growing community of Italian wineries, that want to grow in a sustainable way. In vineyard management, Magis adopts the precision farming approach, which is now widely considered to be the new frontier of sustainability. In fact, research now allows us to understand in great detail what is happening in the vineyard: the zoning of the land, the structure of the soil, and the content of organic and inorganic substances in the soil, the presence of moulds and insects, the flora of the grass, the cycles of pests, and so on. At the same time, new technologies can monitor vineyards, distribute fertilisers or agrochemicals only where and when they are needed, in the quantities required, or to trace all the operations that have been carried out. In other words, with more knowledge, we can now make less interventions than in the past. With no waste, there is no pollution either.
This is confirmed by the results obtained with the first member enterprises, already among the best ones in Italy. In its first year, Magis allowed the member farms to save an average of 9% in the use of agrochemicals and reduce by over 30% on average the use of fertilizers. Fewer operations also mean that water and above all energy are saved, with less carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere. Doing all this naturally requires much more know-how that a farm normally has: this is what Magis is for, to make the best possible knowledge available to everyone.
